Role Overview
The BBC World Service is the world's largest international broadcaster, providing radio and television news, speech, and discussions in 29 languages globally. This role supports the procurement and logistics functions for Bureau facility infrastructure, including TV and Radio studio technical parts, sound, and light components. The Team Assistant plays a critical role in sourcing equipment, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing logistics for timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities and Impact
- Supplier Sourcing & Management: Identify, evaluate, and onboard local and international suppliers for technical equipment. Maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability and cost-efficiency.
- Procurement & Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and shipping arrangements while ensuring alignment with BBC policies and Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all imported and locally purchased materials comply with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), CAK, and specific industry certifications.
- Logistics & Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels to prevent shortages and coordinate clearing and forwarding activities at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
- Quality Assurance: Read and interpret technical engineering specifications to conduct thorough quality audits on incoming materials and equipment. Identify and resolve discrepancies to maintain project integrity.
- Stakeholder Support: Provide general assistance to internal stakeholders regarding procurement activities, policies, and guidelines.
- Reporting & Improvement: Run reports to aid in scoping requirements, identifying savings, and improving contract compliance while supporting the development of procurement guidelines.
Skills and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Procurement or a related field from a recognized institution, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Background in procurement, supply chain management, or technical sourcing, preferably within media or service industry environments.
- Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with Kenyan import/export logistics, customs procedures, and KEBS standards.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with inventory/Asset Register management systems and procurement software.
- Core Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and communication abilities. Ability to multitask and work accurately under tight deadlines.
