Job Description
Role Overview
This is a senior-level position within the Narok County Government responsible for provide technical leadership and oversight in irrigation infrastructure development and management. The successful candidate will coordinate scheme operations, maintenance, and training to ensure sustainable agricultural productivity through efficient irrigation systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
Infrastructure Oversight: Supervising the development and construction of irrigation infrastructure activities.
Irrigation Planning: Analyzing technical data to facilitate effective irrigation planning and strategy.
Scheme Coordination: Coordinating operation and maintenance activities for irrigation schemes, including environmental management.
Standardization: Reviewing irrigation training materials, operations, and maintenance manuals. Developing and reviewing operational standards.
Action Planning: Preparing irrigation action plans and development reports for the county.
Community Engagement: Coordinating the training of irrigation farmers on sustainable scheme management and resource mobilization.
Feasibility Studies: Undertaking feasibility studies on potential irrigation schemes for future development.
Requirements for Appointment
Experience: Served in the grade of Principal Agricultural Engineering Technologist or in a comparable position in the private sector for a minimum period of three (3) years.
Education: A Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Agricultural Engineering; Soil and Water Engineering; Farm Power and Machinery; Irrigation and Drainage Engineering; Processing and Structures or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Alternative Education: A Technician Part III Certificate in any of the following disciplines: Agricultural Engineering; Soil and Water Engineering; Farm Power and Machinery; Irrigation and Drainage Engineering; Processing and Structures or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Management Training: Certificate in a Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution or its equivalent.
Professional Registration: Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
IT Literacy: Certificate in computer application skills.
