Role Overview
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. This role as a Programme Management Assistant (G6) involves supporting the Freshwater and Wetlands Unit in planning, implementing, and monitoring project initiatives. The assistant ensures that environmental programmes are managed efficiently according to UN standards.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Planning & Implementation: Provide assistance in support of planning and implementation of activities/processes for the unit's programme and project initiatives.
Research & Analysis: Research, compile, analyse, summarize, and present basic information and data on specific programmes, projects, and related topics.
Project Coordination: Assist in the coordination of programme/project planning and preparation; monitor the status of proposals and ensure project documents are completed and submitted to relevant parties for approval.
Budgetary Support: Assist in the preparation and analysis of programme/project budget proposals; provide assistance in the interpretation of budget guidelines; review and coordinate submissions of programme proposals and budget estimates.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of programmes/projects; categorize, update, track and analyse data related to accounting records, outputs, and resources utilized.
Administrative Tasks: Maintain unit files, meetings, and calendars; ensure awareness of and compliance with UNEP and Division-wide rules and regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A High School diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree is highly desirable and influences experience requirements.
Professional Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in programme or project administration, finance, reporting, and project management is required. This minimum is reduced to two (2) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
ERP & Systems: A minimum of three (3) years of experience with ERP systems, Business Intelligence, and project structures is required.
International Organization Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of working experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization is required.
Desirable Experience: Experience in data analytics, organizing activities, systematic follow-up, and knowledge of legal, budgeting, and financial processes is desirable.
