The university is seeking a Part-time Lecturer in Hospitality to join the academic team. The role involves teaching, research, student supervision, and administrative duties within the hospitality department.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Keep abreast with development in the academic discipline and use this knowledge to shape and review the curriculum content design and delivery.
Preparation of teaching materials, class methodologies, and teaching aids.
Teaching and instructing students.
Carry out both formative and summative assessments using a variety of methods and deliver appropriate feedback to students to support learning.
Approve and moderate examination results as part of the school board of examiners.
Research
Conduct research in relevant area of expertise and publish in peer-reviewed and reputable journals.
Apply for grants through writing proposals for own research and scholarly projects.
Mentoring junior academic staff and promote a research culture.
Attending and disseminating research output in local and international conferences.
Supervision and Tutorial Support
Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
Guide students in identifying research topics, developing proposals, and journeying through the academic research process.
Review student proposals and internally examine dissertations within the school.
Consultancy
Develop proposals that will earn revenue for the university.
Provide advisory services to business and government agencies.
Collaborate with industry to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application.
Provide training sessions and workshops to professionals in the industry and colleagues.
Administration
Implement strategic plans through setting goals, defining priorities, and aligning resources through leading academic hubs and committees.
Participate in academic staff recruitment panels when called upon and provide guidance in the appointment and promotion process.
Programs development, review, and assessment.
Represent the University to external clients, partners, and other stakeholder engagements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records for their course.
Sit in University and School committees when called upon.
Job Specifications
Minimum Academic Qualifications
Doctorate (Ph.D.) in area of specialization.
Minimum three (3) publications in refereed journals.
Experience
Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in teaching research.
