Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Part-Time Adjunct Faculty within the Department of Travel and Tourism Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to both undergraduate and graduate students, participating in research activities, and contributing to the administrative and academic development of the department.
Key Responsibilities
Adherence to Teaching Requirements: Ensure compliance with the teaching requirements as specified in the curriculum.
Continuous Assessments: Administer Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) to students.
Examination Management: Handle examination setting, moderation, administration, and marking.
Curriculum Delivery: Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, activities, and curriculum delivery.
Professional Development: Stay updated on developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of the subject area to shape curriculum content and design.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that content, methods of delivery, and learning materials meet defined objectives and are regularly reviewed for improvement.
Student Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Records Management: Ensure accurate student records (registers, reports, assessments) are updated in the Academic Management System.
Research Funding: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the research portfolio of the school.
Publishing and Engagement: Engage in publishing papers and participating in/presenting papers at workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaboration: Partner with other researchers internally and internationally to establish research linkages.
Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks as required, including leadership of academic programs or committee membership.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
Option 1:
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university.
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Option 2:
A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Must be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification.
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant professional body (where applicable).
