Role Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. We are seeking qualified Part-Time Adjunct Faculty for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The role involves providing high-quality academic instruction, research, and professional guidance to students. Successful candidates will be responsible for curriculum delivery, supervising student research, and contributing to the overall academic growth of the university.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and curriculum delivery: Prepare high-quality teaching materials and deliver the curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students through class methodology and activities.
Assessment and Examination: Manage examination setting, administration, moderation, and marking, including Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs).
Research and Supervision: Guide undergraduate and graduate students in research topic identification, concept development, proposal development, and thesis supervision.
Curriculum Development: Stay updated with developments in Journalism and Mass Communication to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery.
Student Records: Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessments within the Academic Management System.
Scholarly Activities: Engage in publishing papers, attending and presenting at workshops/conferences, and identifying grant funding sources.
Collaboration: Partner with internal and external researchers to establish research linkages and support the school’s research objectives.
Administrative Duties: Undertake leadership of academic programs or membership of various committees when requested.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must meet either of the following criteria:
Option 1: PhD Holder
An earned PhD degree qualification in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university setting.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Relevant industry experience is an added advantage.
Option 2: Master's Holder
A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university.
Must be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Relevant industry experience is an added advantage.
