Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit a Part-Time Adjunct Faculty member for the Department of Private Law to deliver high-quality learning experiences and contribute to the university's research objectives.
Responsibilities and Duties
Teaching & Delivery: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum. Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials and effective class delivery.
Assessment: Administer Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs). Responsible for examination setting, administration, and marking in a timely manner.
Curriculum Improvement: Stay updated with developments in Private Law to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery. Regularly review methods and materials for improvement.
Student Support: Guide undergraduate and graduate students in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Record Keeping: Ensure accurate student records (registers, reports, assessments) are updated in the Academic Management System.
Research & Funding: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the school's research portfolio.
Scholarship: Engage in publishing academic papers and participate in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaboration: Work with other researchers locally and internationally to establish linkages and achieve school research objectives.
Administration: Perform administrative duties as assigned, including leadership of academic programs and membership in various committees.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must meet either of the following tracks:
Option 1:
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university.
Relevant work experience in industry (added advantage).
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Option 2:
A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university.
Be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Relevant work experience in industry (added advantage).
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
