About the Role
Mount Kenya University (MKU), a fully fledged chartered university, is seeking to recruit Part-Time Adjunct Faculty for the Department of Social and Development Studies. This role involves delivering high-quality education to both undergraduate and graduate students, facilitating research, and contributing to the academic growth of the university through curriculum development and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Pedagogy: Deliver high-quality learning experiences for students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodologies, and curriculum delivery as per the defined standards.
Assessment and Marking: Administer Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs), set examinations, moderate assessments, and ensure timely marking and reporting of student results.
Curriculum Development: Keep updated with academic developments in the subject area to shape curriculum content and ensure learning materials meet defined objectives.
Research and Publication: Engage in publishing academic papers, participating in workshops and conferences, and identifying funding sources through grant writing to advance the school's research portfolio.
Student Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, and proposal supervision.
Administration: Maintain accurate student records in the Academic Management System and undertake leadership or committee duties as assigned.
Collaboration: Partner with internal and external researchers to establish linkages and contribute to the school’s research objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for this appointment, a candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
Category 1 (PhD Holders):
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized or accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university environment.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Relevant industry experience is an added advantage.
Category 2 (Master's Holders):
A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized or accredited university.
Proof of registration for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Relevant industry experience is an added advantage.
