Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Adjunct Faculty within the Department of Psychology, Humanities & Languages. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students, keeping abreast of developments within the academic discipline, and ensuring content and delivery methods meet defined learning objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Delivery: Prepare teaching materials and class activities to deliver a high-quality learning experience. Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum and ensure content is regularly reviewed for improvement.
Assessment and Examinations: Handle the administration of Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs), as well as the setting, moderation, administration, and marking of examinations. Ensure timely student assessment.
Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Academic Discipline: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice to shape curriculum content and design.
Records Management: Maintain and update accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessment results in the Academic Management System.
Research and Publication: Engage in publishing papers and participate in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars. Collaborate with other researchers internally and internationally.
Resource Mobilization: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the school's research portfolio.
Administrative Duties: Undertake administrative tasks as required, including leadership of academic programmes or membership in various committees.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must possess the following:
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university; AND at least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university.
OR
A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university; AND at least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university; AND be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification.
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
