Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced individuals to serve as Part-Time Adjunct Faculty within the Department of Public Law.
Role Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, keeping abreast of developments within the Public Law academic discipline, and contributing to the university's research objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Deliver high-quality learning experiences through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodology, and actual delivery of the curriculum.
Teaching Adherence: Adhere to all teaching requirements as specified in the curriculum.
Assessment and Marking: Administer Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and ensure timely student assessment through the preparation, moderation, administration, and marking of examinations.
Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Scholarly Activity: Engage in publishing papers and attend/participate in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Grant Writing: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the school's research portfolio.
Academic Records: Ensure accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessments, are updated in the Academic Management System.
Collaboration: Work with other researchers internally and internationally to establish research linkages.
Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks as required, including leadership of academic programs or participation in various committees.
Requirements
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must meet one of the following criteria sets:
Option A:
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university.
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Option B:
A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Must be actively registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification.
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
