Job Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a qualified Nurse for their Child Welfare Clinic (CWC). This role is responsible for delivering high-quality maternal, neonatal, and child health services. The primary objective is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality, promote child development, and enhance health service uptake within the community.
Key Responsibilities
Maternal Health
Assist with normal deliveries and conduct emergency deliveries for clients presenting in the second stage at the clinic.
Provide comprehensive post-natal care, including guidance on breastfeeding, family planning, and newborn health.
Administer Maternal EPI services (Tetanus injections) according to the prescribed schedule.
Offer family planning counseling and services, including long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs).
Provide post-abortion care and perform cervical cancer screenings and treatments.
Neonatal Health
Monitor the health of newborns and identify potential complications early.
Provide guidance on breastfeeding and other nutrition options as necessary.
Establish linkages with Nutrition services for vulnerable neonates based on clinical assessment.
Administer essential neonatal interventions, including vaccinations and treatment of common ailments.
Child Health
Deliver immunization services following the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) schedule.
Manage and treat common childhood illnesses such as pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria.
Perform growth monitoring and promote child development via the Child Welfare Clinic (CWC).
Provide specialized nutritional counseling and support.
Record Keeping, Training, and Supervision
Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records for all patients.
Submit timely reports regarding maternal, newborn, and child health indicators.
Engage in capacity-building activities and training to enhance professional skills.
Supervise and mentor junior staff members.
Participate in facility clinical audits and attend Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions.
Community Outreach
Conduct health education sessions within the facility on maternal and child health topics.
Participate in community outreach activities to promote health-seeking behaviors.
Coordinate with clinical teams to ensure adequate clinic coverage.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
