Job Description
Africa Global Logistics (AGL), a leading multimodal logistics operator in Africa and part of the MSC family, is seeking a Human Resources Manager for its Emerging Business division. This role is central to developing and implementing HR policies, systems, and processes that align with the company's strategic goals and commercial outcomes.
Role Overview
The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for the entire employee lifecycle, providing technical support to line managers and ensuring compliance with Kenyan Labor Laws. The role involves high-level talent management, performance evaluation, and maintaining healthy employee relations within a fast-paced, matrix organization.
Key Responsibilities
Policy and Systems Development
Initiate and facilitate the development and implementation of HR Policies.
Develop HR systems and processes for approval and monitor their effective implementation.
Ensure all policies and procedures are based on relevant legislation and contemporary HR management practices.
Recruitment and Talent Management
Coordinate recruitment, selection, induction, and placement of staff in liaison with Heads of Departments (HODs).
Manage the Graduate Management Program and leadership development for high-potential employees.
Build and proactively manage talent pipelines and planning the annual learning calendar.
Monitor induction, probation, and contract renewals to ensure timely confirmation or extension.
Payroll and Benefits
Oversee payroll management and ensure inputs are accurate.
Ensure individual staff pay structures conform to their terms of service.
Liaise with the CFO to determine budgets for vacant positions.
Performance and Employee Relations
Provide HR technical support to Line Managers in performance monitoring and evaluation.
Handle disciplinary procedures, grievances, counselling, and arbitration among staff.
Participate in people and culture initiatives to drive employee engagement.
Support managers in dealing with poor performance and resolving HR issues proactively.
Operations and Compliance
Oversee the safety and timely update of staff files and records.
Prepare Job Descriptions in liaison with HODs and update departmental organograms.
Oversee staff welfare, leave administration, and termination processes.
Ensure reporting and compliance with all statutory and organizational requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications
Master's degree in HR Management.
Higher Diploma in HR management or CHRP certification.
Valid membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience as an HR partner, working in international commercial, matrix, fast-paced, and complex organizations.
Deep knowledge of Kenyan Labor Laws.
Skills and Competencies
Strategic mindset with the ability to interpret business goals into robust people strategies.
Commercial focus with a demonstrated ability to identify and deliver commercial outcomes.
Strong arbitration and counselling skills.
Proficiency in payroll management and HR systems.
