Job Description
Remote is looking for an Engineering Team Leader to manage a small product team while actively participating in product development. A Team Leader is responsible for all the work of a team and serves as the spokesperson for everyone in it. In this role, you are expected to manage team dynamics and consistently bring out the best in every individual. A team leader is not necessarily the best technical expert in the group, but rather a facilitator who helps others become their best versions and gears the team towards optimized execution.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management: Manage a small product team of 3-5 engineers (backend and frontend), spending approximately 30% of your time on management duties and the rest on active product development.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Participate in the hiring processes for your team and assist peers with recruitment. Take responsibility for the onboarding process of new engineering hires.
Team Growth and Mentorship: Provide continuous, constructive feedback and guidance to help the team grow as a group and manage each direct report’s career development.
Operational Innovation: Redesign how engineering work ships by utilizing autonomous agents as the default execution layer.
Agentic Workflows: Propose and operationalize end-to-end agentic workflows (spec, plan, execute, and verify) to deliver faster outcomes.
Reusable Primitives: Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives in the codebase for team-wide application across different domains.
Quality Assurance: Use verification loops including tests, checks, evaluations, and guardrails to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.
Requirements
Leadership Experience: Previously managed an engineering team of at least 2 people.
Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with Frontend technologies (React, JS, ES6, and Jest) or Backend technologies (Elixir/Phoenix).
Foundations: Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
Systems Thinking: Ability to define clear specs, break down complex plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
Communication: Solid communication and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Automation: Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and improving them through iteration.
Culture & Values: Commitment to promoting Remote's values, including diversity, equality, and inclusion, with a kind, people-first approach.
Qualifications
A BA, BSc, or HND in a relevant field.
