Embroidery Machine Operator

Key Responsibilities

• Operate machines to embroider names, logos, initials, or decorative designs on garments, household articles, material, uniforms, etc.
• Stitch cording, braid, or emblems on material or garments, following stamped/approved designs.
• Input logos into embroidery machines using digital files or appropriate storage media.
• Observe sewing operations to detect defects in stitching that indicate machine malfunction and notify supervisors promptly.
• Iron embroidery material to smooth areas using a hand iron.
• Repair defective embroidery or fill in blanks left by the embroidery machine.
• Hoop and center material to prepare for processing on the embroidery machine.
• Manage basic machine operations: switching on/off, threading, and replacement of bobbins.
• Handle logo framing, ranging, machine loading, offloading, and continuous stitch monitoring.
• Maintain quality control and monitor product quality throughout the process.
• Listen for machine sound changes to monitor for potential technical problems.
• Clean the machine and the workspace at the end of every shift.
• Accurately fill in the Machine Maintenance Log Book.
• Perform any other duties assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Must have a KCSE certificate.
• Certification: Certificates or short courses in vocational training related to machine operation or textiles will be an added advantage.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years working experience in a similar position.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Machine Operation: Prior experience operating industrial embroidery machines, specifically multi-head machines, is highly preferred.
• Computer Literacy: Ability to load and interpret digital embroidery files and use basic computer controls on the machine.
• Attention to Detail: Essential for ensuring quality, correct placement, and color accuracy of embroidery.
• Troubleshooting: Ability to detect issues (thread breaks, tension problems, misalignment) and perform routine maintenance.
• Physical Stamina: Capability of standing for long periods, hoisting garments, and manually adjusting heavy fabric.
• Communication & Teamwork: Necessary for coordinating production schedules and reporting technical issues.
