Role Overview\nThe Electrician at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and appliances across the university campus and staff residences. This role involves ensuring that all electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, lighting, and backup systems, operates safely and efficiently in accordance with established standards.\n\n### Duties and Responsibilities\n- Installation and Repair: Install electrical appliances and equipment for the university and in university workers’ homes. Perform service and repair of faulty power lines.\n- Maintenance: Repair and maintain electrical appliances, equipment, tools, and installations. Keep detailed records of maintenance activities across the campus.\n- Lighting Systems: Install, repair, and maintain lighting systems including floodlights, security lights, and street lighting. Regularly replace components such as bulbs, tubes, starters, sockets, and ballasts.\n- Water Heating & Hostel Maintenance: Replace and maintain instant heaters in student hostels.\n- Power Generation & Backup: Support the installation, inspection, repair, and servicing of generators and backup power systems. Monitor generator connections from source to consumer and handle generator fueling.\n- Fault Diagnosis: Troubleshoot electrical faults and ensure the quick restoration of power systems. Identify necessary spare parts for repairs.\n- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work complies with electrical safety standards and regulations. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems and main switches.\n- Collaboration: Work closely with the Maintenance Department to support campus infrastructure needs and ensure proper care of university equipment.\n- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Physical Plant Manager.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n- Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Installation from a recognized institution.\n- Experience: At least 2–3 years of practical work experience in electrical installation and maintenance.\n- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of power distribution, lighting systems, generator systems, and electrical fault diagnosis. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.\n- Compliance: Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) or a relevant professional body. Good knowledge of electrical safety standards.\n- Additional Knowledge: Knowledge in the related field of refrigeration and cold rooms is an advantage.\n- Physical Flexibility: Be reliable and flexible to work an extra mile on underground and overhead lines, and during odd hours.\n- Personal Attributes: Must be a Christian of regular standing with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
