Career Options Africa Ltd is seeking a qualified Electrical Technician to support operations in a power plant setting. The role is vital for ensuring the safe and economical operation and maintenance of the plant and its auxiliary equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing electrical installations, diagnosing faults, and maintaining safety protocols such as lock-out/tag-out procedures.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Plant Maintenance: Maintain the power plant in a clean and safe condition, ensuring all machines and auxiliary equipment are in good working order.
- Corrective Action: Take directed corrective actions and perform emergency procedures to protect personnel and equipment during failures or safety deficiencies.
- Resource Management: Account for all parts, materials, and supplies used during work; maintain tools to maximize their operating life.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, specifically including isolation, lock-out, and tag-out procedures.
- Equipment Identification: Identify motor components (injection pumps, cylinders, turning gears, emergency stops) and electrical panels for all plant equipment.
- Technical Repairs: Repair electrical panels and substitute components such as contacts, transformers, and fuses; identify and resolve defects.
- Substation & MV/HV Room: Work with equipment in Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) rooms as well as the KV substation.
- Measurement & Monitoring: Use digital and analogue multi-meters, frequency meters, oscilloscopes, and DC sources; monitor pressure and temperature indicators (manometers, thermometers).
- Separator Operation: Start, stop, and monitor lubricating oil and HFO separators, interpreting alarm readings without supervision.
- Control Systems: Identify control panel alarms and trips for engines and auxiliary systems; analyze abnormalities and equipment tendencies through graphs.
- Support & Relations: Support the power plant's instructional mission and maintain positive customer and team relations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: A Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related Electrical Engineering field.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a power plant.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to perform electrical installations, read technical graphs, and operate complex measurement equipment.
- Safety Mindset: Proven commitment to safety standards in an industrial environment.
