Role Overview
Appointment to this position is either on Permanent and Pensionable terms or on a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, or other eligibility criteria. The Demonstrator at Pwani University is responsible for supporting the Department and Faculty through instruction, research, and administrative tasks. This role involves specialized demonstrations in cadaveric laboratory studies and mentoring students within the medical programs.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Evaluation: Conduct instruction for diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate diploma students. This includes setting, moderating, administering, processing, and marking examinations both internally and externally.
Mentorship and Advising: Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and postgraduate diploma students.
Research and Development: Initiate, plan, and conduct research activities; develop research proposals for funding; and supervise students in research projects.
Curriculum and Materials: Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula. Develop teaching and learning materials for the department.
Institutional Contribution: Articulate the Vision and Mission of the University; participate in departmental meetings, strategic planning, and administrative activities.
Professional Engagement: Attend and participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences to build interdisciplinary collaboration and stay updated in the field.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Credentials: A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
Professional Registration: Must be registered with the relevant professional body.
Professional Experience: At least one (1) year of experience with demonstrations in cadaveric laboratory studies.
Community Engagement: Demonstrable involvement in the community (e.g., Member of BOG, SMC, etc.).
Skills and Competencies
Ability to teach, conduct research, and supervise students and staff.
Proficiency in designing and developing academic programs and curriculum.
Specialized knowledge in cadaveric lab techniques.
