The Data Scientist will play a key role in designing, improving and operationalizing data reporting, analytics and visualization solutions that advance Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda. The role will take ownership of complex data preparation tasks, develop analytical insights and contribute to scalable analytics products used by T4Health and partner organizations. The position requires strong technical capability, the ability to work with diverse health data systems and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Quality Assurance
Lead data cleaning, transformation, and validation processes across multiple health information systems.
Conduct advanced data quality assessments, identify root causes of inconsistencies, and recommend corrective measures.
Data Analysis & Visualization
Develop interactive dashboards, visualizations, and performance reports using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
Perform in-depth exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, anomalies, and actionable insights.
Analytics & Modeling
Build and optimize analytical models and metrics in support of UHC monitoring and program performance.
Collaborate with senior technical staff to refine methodologies and ensure analytical rigor.
Data Integration & Standardization
Support integration of datasets from different platforms, ensuring consistency in formats, definitions, and metadata.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of data dictionaries, schemas, and technical documentation.
Technical Documentation & Reporting
Produce clear, structured documentation of workflows, scripts, analytical methods, and outputs.
Develop recurring analytical deliverables, including dashboards, data summaries, and technical reports.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Capacity Development
Partner with internal teams, government agencies, and external organizations to address data needs and improve data use.
Provide training, mentoring, and support to staff on data tools, dashboards, and analytical best practices.
Compliance, Privacy & Data Governance
Uphold strict data privacy, security, and governance standards in line with organizational and national policies.
Support implementation of data protection practices across analytics workflows.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Medical Epidemiology, Health Informatics, or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in data science, data analysis, or applied analytics, preferably within the health or development sector.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced understanding of statistical packages such as R, Stata, SPSS, Epi, Arc or QGIS.
Core Skills: Proficiency in Python or R, SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau).
Domain Knowledge: Experience working with health information systems (e.g., EMRs, DHIS2) is an advantage.
Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently; strong communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary environments.
