The Cleaner is responsible for the cleaning of all designated technical areas, offices, Single Living Accommodation (SLA), and Substitute Service Family Accommodation (SSFA) within the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) Nyati Barracks. The successful candidate will work to ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained across the facility, sometimes working unsupervised.
Responsibilities
General Cleaning: Thoroughly clean all offices, technical areas, and accommodation as per the timings set by the Camp Manager and cleaning supervisor.
Office Duties: Tasks include mopping and sweeping floors, emptying bins, cleaning all surfaces, and dusting IT equipment. Ensure the immediate exterior area of office buildings is kept clean.
Deep Cleaning: Perform a deep clean of offices once a week, which may involve modified working hours (starting and finishing earlier).
Facility Security: Ensure all unoccupied offices and accommodations are secured after cleaning is completed.
Reporting: Promptly report all faults within your area of responsibility to the Camp Managers or Supervisors.
Safety and Compliance: Use correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for daily tasks. Ensure all cleaning materials are used according to instructions and stored safely following COSHH assessment guidelines.
Logistics: Request cleaning materials and equipment through the supervisor as needed. Act as a building custodian and manage water coolant/bottles when required.
Additional Support: Be prepared to cover for other cleaners during leave and assist in cleaning other areas within Nyati, including unoccupied properties.
Contractor Escort: You may be required to escort casual workers and sanitary contracted companies such as Rentokil.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: A BA, BSc, or HND qualification is required.
Competencies: Must demonstrate strong skills in Communicating and Influencing, Working Together, and Planning and Managing Resources to Deliver Results.
Training Requirements: The candidate must be security cleared. They will also undergo training in manual handling, Health and Safety, equipment care, and the structure/function of the British Army.
Personal Attributes: Should be well-organized, self-driven, and possess good communication skills. An understanding of recycling practices is desirable.
