The Chemist is responsible for overseeing laboratory sampling and testing activities and ensuring compliance with fuel quality standards, technical directives, and operational requirements. This role plays a critical part in executing the Diego Garcia (DG) fuel supply plan in compliance with military-grade base documents and technical directives.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Oversight: Oversee all laboratory sampling and testing activities to ensure the execution of the fuel supply plan.
Compliance Management: Ensure all activities comply with MIL-STD-3004, NAVAIR 00-80T-109, TO 42B-1-1, and relevant regional directives/instructions.
Operational Execution: Conduct fuel sampling and testing procedures accurately to meet specific operational requirements.
Quality Assurance: Provide technical expertise and oversight in fuel-related quality assurance processes.
Record Keeping: Document and maintain comprehensive records of fuel sampling and testing results to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance.
Procedural Development: Support the development of operating procedures and technical guidance for fuel testing operations.
Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with program management, leadership, and key stakeholders to ensure the accurate execution of the fuel quality plan.
Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate risks that could impact the integrity of fuel storage, handling, and distribution.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience specifically in sampling and testing bulk fuel.
Technical Standards: Demonstrated working knowledge of fuel testing standards including MIL-STD-3004, NAVAIR 00-80T-109, and TO 42B-1-1.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is preferred.
Environment: Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
Documentation: Must possess a valid passport (valid for at least 1 year at time of hiring) and a valid country driver’s license.
Deployment Readiness: Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain these requirements for the duration of deployment.
