
National Youth Service (NYS)
The National Youth Service (NYS) is seeking to recruit Cadet Officers specializing in Livestock Production. These positions are permanent and pensionable, offering an opportunity for young Kenyans to serve the nation while developing their professional careers in agriculture and livestock management. Successful candidates will be integrated into the NYS and must undergo a mandatory nine-month paramilitary training program at the NYS Training College.\n\n### Duties and Responsibilities\nWhile specific daily duties are integrated into the paramilitary and service structure, the role involves:\n* Overseeing livestock production activities including animal science and dairy technology.\n* Managing apiculture, range management, and natural resource conservation within assigned units.\n* Conducting livestock and agricultural economic planning and extensions.\n* Supervising livestock health and breeding programs.\n* Training and mentoring youth recruits in modern agricultural and livestock production techniques.\n* Maintaining the high standards of discipline and professional conduct of the Service.\n\n### Terms of Service and Benefits\n* As per the existing NYS salary scale.\n* Provided under the SHA Scheme of Civil Servants.\n* Permanent and Pensionable.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n* Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Animal Production, Apiculture, Range Management, Natural Resource Management, Livestock/Agricultural Economics, Dairy Technology, Agricultural Education and Extension, or equivalent qualification.\n* Minimum grade of C+ (plus).\n* Must be a Kenyan citizen.\n* Between 18 and 28 years.\n* Valid Kenyan National Identity Card (ID) and KRA PIN Certificate.\n* No criminal record and must meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.\n* Must be medically fit.\n* Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.\n* Successful candidates MUST undergo NYS Paramilitary training for nine (9) months.\n\n### How to Apply\nInterested candidates are required to download and complete the Application for Employment Form – PSC.2 (Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website. Duly completed forms should be submitted via email to director.generalnys@gmail.com, sent by post to the Commandant General, or hand-delivered to the Registry at NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi.
