Role Overview
Christian Blind Mission (CBM) Kenya is an independent Member Association of the CBM Family. The Country Team in Kenya consists of 12 employees. As the Business Development Coordinator, you will report to the Country Director Kenya with a dotted-line reporting to the Director of Institutional Funding. You will join a team of 6 people and will have no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
Country-Level Business Development Leadership
- Drive and coordinate institutional business development efforts at the country level in line with the Country Strategy and CBM Global’s Institutional Funding Strategy.
- Serve as the focal point for institutional funding opportunities, donor engagement, and consortium positioning within the Country Team.
- Drive proactive pipeline development, from early opportunity identification through to submission readiness.
- Lead the quarterly BD review and the annual BD planning process.
Donor Intelligence, Positioning, and Engagement
- Map, analyse, and monitor institutional donors, foundations, multilaterals, and consortia leads operating in-country.
- Represent CBM Global in donor coordination platforms and cluster meetings.
- Track donor priorities, funding cycles, and policy developments relevant to CBM Global’s thematic focuses.
- Lead direct engagement with in-country donors, including meetings, briefings, and field visits.
- Prepare donor-facing materials such as briefing notes and capability statements.
- Ensure donor intelligence is documented and shared within the CBM Global federation.
Proposal and Consortium Development
- Lead or coordinate the development of concept notes and proposals in collaboration with Programme, Finance, and Technical Teams.
- Facilitate consortium identification and partner engagement with INGOs, local NGOs, OPDs, UN agencies, and research institutions.
- Coordinate inputs, timelines, and compliance checks for internal review processes.
- Ensure proposals are donor-compliant, technically strong, and competitive.
Internal Coordination and Capacity Strengthening
- Act as a bridge between programme, finance, MEL, communications, and advocacy teams related to business development.
- Support programme teams in designing fundable, scalable, and donor-aligned interventions.
- Strengthen internal understanding of donor expectations and processes.
- Ensure that lessons learned are documented and corrective actions implemented.
Systems, Processes, and Knowledge Management
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of donor and proposal data into Global Online.
- Apply digital and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and quality in proposal development.
- Contribute to federation-wide learning and strategy development through the Institutional Funding Working Group.
Safeguarding and Organisational Values
- Ensure all business development activities comply with CBM Global’s safeguarding policies and ethical standards.
- Promote inclusive and partnership-based approaches in donor engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: BA/BSc/HND in a relevant field.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years’ experience in institutional fundraising, business development, or programme development in the international development or humanitarian sector.
- Proposal Success: Demonstrated experience in developing and submitting successful funding proposals to institutional donors.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of donor environments, funding mechanisms (e.g., EU, FCDO, DFAT, UN), and consortium-based approaches.
- Strategy: Experience in developing country-level funding strategies and donor engagement plans.
- Collaboration: Experience working closely with programme teams and in-country partners.
- Disability Inclusion: Experience in disability inclusion, inclusive development, or rights-based programming is preferable.
- Lived Experience: Lived experience of disability is considered an asset.
