The Workshop Supervisor is a key leadership role at the unit factory level, reporting directly to the Workshop Manager. The primary purpose of this role is to manage daily workshop operations, supervise staff, and ensure that all woodwork manufacturing and site installations are completed on time and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will balance technical supervision with financial oversight and client relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Monitor workshop budgets and control labor costs and expenses with a focus on rate strategy and inventory management.
Coordinate resources to ensure work delivery aligns with timelines and quality requirements.
Develop and implement cost-reduction plans that do not compromise the quality of manufactured products.
Achieve budgeted revenues and team sales goals to maximize overall profitability.
Prepare and submit timely statistical, performance, and forecast reports.
Maintain and design secure procedures for financial transactions, credit, and inventory control.
People Leadership & Development
Manage daily staffing requirements, including planning, work assignment, and establishing performance goals.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and feedback to manage conflicts and improve individual performance.
Train team members on compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and labor laws.
Ensure staff are proficient in machine usage, equipment systems, security procedures, and manufacturing quality standards.
Promote company culture and lead innovation in new products and production processes.
Maintain accurate records of timekeeping and work logs.
Client Experience & Quality Control
Ensure prompt delivery of orders with meticulous attention to detail.
Interact effectively with clients to identify needs and ensure accurate order recording.
Respond to client complaints and solicit feedback to drive continuous improvement in satisfaction.
Conduct routine inspections of the workshop and showroom to correct any operational deficiencies.
Implement systems for recording and storing client enquiry information.
Responsible Business Operations
Verify billing instructions and client credit compliance with company policy.
Train team members on emergency procedures and serve as a central communication point during crises.
Minimize material wastage and ensure proper disposal to reduce the environmental footprint.
Track company vehicles and equipment on the road, investigating maintenance concerns or complaints.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or equivalent higher education qualification in Woodworks, Interior Design, Business Administration, or Project Management from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 3 years of commercial woodwork factory operation experience, including a supervisory role.
Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Physical ability to frequently patrol workshop and showroom areas and lift items weighing up to 50 kilograms.
Proficiency in using computers for generating quotations and management reports.
Strong mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, and profit/loss concepts.
Excellent problem-solving, reasoning, and organizational abilities.
