Role Overview
The Workshop Manager at The Edition Investments Limited is a senior managerial position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the unit factory and showroom. This role requires a high degree of technical and managerial expertise to manage production processes, showroom design, sales leads, and requisitions, ensuring the delivery of unique, durable, and superior quality products. The manager acts as the primary leader at the unit level, reporting to the Operations Manager and supervising workshop staff, site supervisors, and installers.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Strategic Management
- Participate in the preparation of annual operating budgets, financial, and marketing plans.
- Monitor budgets and control labor costs and expenses through effective rate strategies and inventory management.
- Develop operational plans to reduce costs without compromising product quality.
- Achieve budgeted revenues and team sales goals to maximize unit profitability.
- Prepare and submit monthly performance reports, forecast analyses, and statistical data on time.
- Maintain security procedures for financial transactions, client security, and inventory control.
People & Team Leadership
- Manage daily staffing requirements, assign work, and establish development goals for team members.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and feedback to improve performance and resolve conflicts.
- Ensure staff are trained on machine usage, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Promote company culture and values in all business decisions.
- Facilitate a clean and safe working environment in accordance with labor laws.
- Lead innovation in new products and champion change in production processes.
- Maintain accurate records of timekeeping and work logs.
Client Experience
- Ensure orders are delivered promptly with meticulous attention to detail.
- Interact with clients to identify needs and ensure accurate recording of orders.
- Handle client complaints effectively and solicit feedback to drive satisfaction.
- Conduct routine inspections of the workshop and showroom to correct deficiencies.
- Implement systems for recording and storing client enquiry information.
Responsible Business Operations
- Ensure compliance with company credit policies and secure handling of transactions.
- Train the team on emergency procedures and maintain relationships with emergency services.
- Minimize material wastage and ensure efficient use of resources to reduce environmental footprint.
- Track company vehicles and equipment, investigating any maintenance concerns.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Woodworks, Interior Design, Business Administration, or Project Management from a recognized institution.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of commercial woodwork factory operation experience, including management experience.
- Languages: Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using computers for quotations and reporting; ability to handle various factory equipment and machines.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to patrol the factory area frequently and lift items weighing up to 50kg.
