The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is seeking a Treasury & Compliance Accountant (Senior Accountant) to perform complex accounting functions across various Church settings. This role involves maintaining financial accuracy through general ledger management, reconciliation, and compliance auditing while providing mentorship to junior accounting staff.
Responsibilities
General Ledger & Financial Reporting: Initiate general ledger file maintenance so that financial statement presentations will be accurate and meaningful. Consolidate accounting information for use in accounting statements and summaries.
Reconciliation & Analysis: Reconcile accounts, review reconciliations, and ensure that all outstanding items are properly cleared. Prepare journal entries and other adjustments to correct errors.
Budget Management: Analyze budget requests and explain any budgetary changes resulting from increased costs or changes in programs. Review expenditures against budget and make necessary reconciliations, investigations, and correcting entries.
Compliance & Auditing: Review and monitor invoices submitted for payment which exceed certain dollar amounts as defined by policy. Audit project accounts for compliance to policy and correspond with appropriate parties regarding the status of these projects.
Reporting & Support: Prepare special studies and reports for departments and organizations as required. Assist in preparing various financial estimates and expense reports. Draft correspondence to appropriate parties regarding any differences that require investigation or further action.
Mentorship: Assist in evaluating and motivating employees under the direction of a supervisor. Act as a resource for Accountant 1 and Accountant 2 incumbents being trained in Church accounting systems.
Coordination: Coordinate accounting matters with other departments, locations, and divisions.
Requirements
Religious Requirement: Must be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
Education: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management; majoring in financial accounting.
Professional Qualification: Professional qualification and membership in any relevant professional bodies such as CPA(K), ACCA, CISA, etc.
Experience: Must have a minimum of four to six years of professional accounting experience.
Technical Proficiency: Must have extensive experience in the use of computerized accounting systems and computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint. Experience with Oracle or PeopleSoft will be an added advantage.
Regulatory Knowledge: Must understand the accountant code of conduct and demonstrate a well-grounded knowledge of financial and accounting theory, policies, and procedures, including a knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Skills: Ability to analyze and understand complex accounting problems and financial reports. Ability to develop an accounting system to mitigate risks.
