Strathmore University is seeking a Teaching Fellow in Spanish to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, consultancy, administration, supervision, mentoring, and providing tutorial support to help students achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Keep up-to-date with developments in the Spanish academic discipline and use this knowledge to shape and review curriculum content, design, and delivery.
Prepare teaching materials, class methodologies, and teaching aids.
Instruct and teach students.
Carry out and moderate both formative and summative assessments using a variety of methods.
Provide appropriate and timely feedback to students to support their learning.
Approve and moderate examination results as part of the school board of examiners.
Research
Conduct research in relevant areas of expertise and publish in peer-reviewed and reputable journals.
Apply for grants by writing proposals for research and scholarly projects.
Mentor junior academic staff and promote a culture of research within the institution.
Attend and disseminate research findings at local and international conferences through policy briefs, interviews, etc.
Administration
Implement strategic plans by setting goals, defining priorities, and aligning resources (including budgets) through academic hubs and committees.
Participate in academic staff recruitment panels and provide guidance on appointments and promotions.
Lead program development, review, and assessment.
Represent the University in engagements with external clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for courses (course files).
Sit in University and School committees when required.
Community Engagement
Participate in service to society activities and community outreach programs.
Academic Qualifications
Must hold a Masters’ Degree in Spanish or a related area of specialization.
Experience
Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in a teaching or research capacity.
