About the Role
Shamiri Institute is looking for Shamiri Fellows to join our team in Muranga. Our mission is to provide youth in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond with evidence-based tools to improve their life outcomes. Founded at Harvard and launched in Kenya in 2018, we combine rigorous social science research with deep contextual knowledge of the education and mental healthcare space.
As a Shamiri Fellow, you will be at the forefront of our mission, delivering mental health and wellness intervention activities to adolescents. This role involves facilitating group sessions, ensuring participant safety, and accurate data collection through our digital platforms.
Responsibilities
Facilitation: Delivering intervention activities by facilitating group sessions for participants.
Participant Support: Referring students in need of psychosocial support to Shamiri Supervisors.
Professionalism: Observing strict punctuality on all matters concerning the Shamiri program.
Supervision: Attending supervision meetings as communicated and reporting necessary information to supervisors promptly.
Documentation: Recording group session attendance and ensuring accurate participant information is captured.
Safety: Acting under supervision to ensure participant confidentiality, health, and safety.
Data Management: Collecting data through the Shamiri Digital Hub during group sessions to ensure accurate reporting.
Requirements
Academic Qualification: Must have attained at least a Grade C- in KCSE, or an equivalent qualification (GCSE, AS-level, etc.).
Age: Must be between 18 and 22 years of age at the time of application.
Digital Skills: Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (e.g., Google Docs, Forms, Calendar) or other basic digital tools.
Equipment: Own or have access to a phone that can access the internet.
Soft Skills: Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Personal Attributes: A genuine interest in helping others, particularly adolescents, with a strong commitment to confidentiality, fairness, and emotional safety.
Growth Mindset: Willingness to learn from mistakes and use feedback for personal and professional growth.
Preferred Experience: Experience facilitating or supporting group activities, especially with adolescents or in school settings, is a plus.
