Job Description
Shamiri Institute is on a mission to provide youths in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond with evidence-based tools to improve their life outcomes. Based in Kiambu, Shamiri Fellows are responsible for delivering intervention activities that combine rigorous social science research with deep contextual knowledge of the education and mental healthcare space. This role involves leading group sessions, collecting participant data, and providing psychosocial support to help adolescents actualize their potential.
Roles and Responsibilities
Group Facilitation: Deliver intervention activities by facilitating structured group sessions for adolescents.
Psychosocial Support: Identify and refer students in need of additional psychosocial support to Shamiri Supervisors.
Program Adherence: Observe strict punctuality and act under supervision to help ensure participant confidentiality, health, and safety.
Monitoring & Reporting: Attend supervision meetings, record group attendance, and report necessary information to supervisors promptly.
Data Collection: Use the Shamiri Digital Hub during group sessions to collect accurate participant information.
Requirements
Education: Must have attained at least a Grade C- in KCSE, or an equivalent qualification (GCSE, AS-level, etc.).
Age: Must be between 18 and 22 years of age at the time of application.
Digital Skills: Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (Google Docs, Forms, Calendar) or other basic digital tools.
Equipment: Own or have access to a phone that can access the internet.
Experience: Previous experience facilitating or supporting group activities, especially with adolescents or in school settings, is a plus.
Soft Skills: Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills; attention to detail in facilitation and reporting.
Attributes: A genuine interest in helping others, a commitment to emotional safety and fairness, and a willingness to learn from feedback.
Alignment: Must align with the mission and values of the Shamiri Institute.
Interest Area: Basic knowledge or interest in mental health, wellness, or life skills education.
