Job Description
Shamiri Institute is a wellness-focused organization that provides youth in Sub-Saharan Africa with evidence-based tools to improve their life outcomes. Launched in 2018, the institute combines rigorous social science research with deep contextual knowledge of the education and mental healthcare space.
The Shamiri Fellows role is a fellowship aimed at young adults (aged 18-22) to deliver mental health and life-skills interventions. Fellows facilitate group-based activities for adolescents, ensuring a safe and confidential environment while utilizing digital tools to track progress and data. This is an excellent opportunity for recent KCSE graduates to gain experience in community service, facilitation, and data management.
Key Responsibilities
Intervention Facilitation: Deliver mental health and life-skills intervention activities by facilitating structured group sessions.
Participant Support: Identify and refer students in need of psychosocial support to Shamiri Supervisors.
Data Collection: Use the Shamiri Digital Hub during group sessions to collect accurate participant information and data.
Safety and Confidentiality: Ensure participant confidentiality, health, and safety under the guidance of supervisors.
Reporting: Attend regular supervision meetings and report all necessary information promptly.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of group session attendance.
Professionalism: Maintain strict punctuality and organizational standards for all program activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
Age: Must be between 18 and 22 years of age at the time of application.
Education: Minimum Grade C- in KCSE, or equivalent (GCSE, AS-level, etc.).
Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with basic digital tools and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Forms, Calendar).
Equipment: Access to a smartphone that can connect to the internet.
Soft Skills: Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
Interpersonal Skills: A genuine interest in helping others, specifically adolescents, and a commitment to fairness and emotional safety.
Mindset: Alignment with Shamiri’s mission and values; a willingness to learn and apply feedback for growth.
Preferred Experience: Previous experience facilitating group activities, especially in school settings or with adolescents, is considered a plus.
