Job Description
Role Overview
Under the guidance of the Regional Security Specialist for the Americas and the Caribbean, the Security and Safety Communications Intern will support the communication efforts of the wider UN Security Management System (UNSMS) as an integral member of the UN Women Security and Safety Services Team. The role focuses on facilitating the identification, development, and delivery of person-centered security and safety communications, as well as supporting the implementation of the internal security and safety communications roadmap to strengthen awareness, engagement, and a culture of security and safety across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Liaison: Collaborate with appropriate units, divisions, and sections internally.
External Communication Support: Liaise with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and UNSMS partners to develop robust security and safety communications products.
Gender-Sensitive Materials: Support the development of gender-sensitive security information, coordination, and communication materials.
Campaign Coordination: Support the development of communication campaigns, establishing cohesive and coordinated channels of communication to reach and influence key audiences.
Presentation Development: Create effective and visually accessible presentations.
Design & Production: Utilize communications and design tools to develop communication products, including flyers, presentations, graphics, videos, multimedia materials, and intranet pages.
Inter-Agency Collaboration: Participate in the Inter-Agency Security Management System Strategic Communications Working Group.
Educational Outreach: Liaise with all interested parties regarding identified educational materials.

Requirements & Qualifications
University studies in security risk management, criminal justice systems, security information management, international relations, media/communications, or other relevant subjects is required.
Must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (master's or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor's or equivalent);
Be enrolled in a mandatory national service programme of which the internship may form a part; or
Have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within two years of graduation.
