Job Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the world's environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment.
UNEP is seeking a Communication Strategy Consultant to support the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) of Sierra Leone in the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 3.0 (2026-2035).
Duties and Responsibilities
Communications Planning: Lead the development, implementation, and updating of a comprehensive communications plan for the NBSAP 3.0, including setting goals, defining target audiences, and selecting appropriate channels.
Message Management: Facilitate the crafting, distribution, and managing of consistent messaging across various platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, and press releases.
Public Relations & Capacity Building: Strengthen the EPA Information, Communication and Advocacy Directorate to manage public relations, media contacts list, press releases, and special events to protect and enhance the organization's reputation.
Information Flow: Support the EPA to ensure consistent, timely information flow to the general public on the NBSAP-related interventions to promote engagement and alignment with existing initiatives.
Campaign Analysis: Facilitate and analyze campaign effectiveness, tracking metrics, and producing regular reports on communication initiatives that relate to NBSAP implementation.
Crisis Communications: Provide capacity to the EPA to develop, maintain, and execute crisis communication plans to protect the NBSAP campaign brand during unforeseen events.
Resource Mobilization: Train the EPA on how to mobilize resources to support NBSAP communication campaigns and create a brand that is successful for the implementation of the NBSAP (2026-2035).
Road Map & Training: Develop a road map for the effective implementation of the communication strategy of NBSAP 3.0, and hold several training sessions with the EPA to enable them to understand crafting, distributing, and managing consistent messaging across various platforms.
Campaign Materials: Produce campaign materials for different stakeholders in different languages.
Reporting: Report to the Programme Management Officer of the Nature Frameworks Support Unit, in close collaboration with the NBSAP Accelerator Partnerships Facilitator and with the EPA in Sierra Leone.
