Job Description
British American Tobacco (BAT) is seeking a Regulatory Engagement Executive for its Kenyan operations. This junior management role is pivotal in supporting the execution of fiscal, regulatory, and Anti-Illicit Trade (AIT) strategies. You will be responsible for monitoring the external environment, engaging with government bodies, and managing both internal and external corporate communications to protect the company's reputation and support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Fiscal and Regulatory Engagement
Support the local execution of fiscal strategies while managing business and reputational risks.
Monitor the local excise and trade environment and analyze research on demand, tax revenues, and illicit trade.
Facilitate formal submissions to the National Treasury, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and parliamentary committees.
Prepare robust local analysis and advocacy materials to deliver key messaging to regulators and state departments.
Support the Senior Regulatory Manager in developing engagement strategies and communication plans.
Anti-Illicit Trade (AIT) Support
Collect information for evaluating illegal competitor activities.
Assist in procuring local advocacy to support BAT’s position.
Perform administrative activities, including risk management and invoice processing for consultants and professional service providers.
Support the deployment of local engagement and campaign communications.
Corporate Communications
Support the development and improvement of local media relations and handle media queries.
Prepare and circulate press releases and news articles regarding company activities.
Represent the company in media interviews, press conferences, and events.
Manage and supervise the BAT Kenya website.
Deliver corporate information to the workforce through internal channels (emails, MS Teams, newsletters, etc.).
Apply corporate visual identity and drive culture change through effective communication of business principles.
Stakeholder and Reporting Support
Support BAT Kenya representatives in various associations.
Manage media positioning, media training, and company spokesperson roles.
Provide support for annual and sustainability reporting.
Requirements
Education: A University Degree in a relevant field (BA/BSc/HND).
Experience: Minimum of two years’ proven experience in public policy, corporate affairs, or a corporate communications/media management role.
Stakeholder Management: Confirmed ability to work with third-party networks and diverse partner groups to drive organizational objectives.
Industry Knowledge: General understanding of the tobacco/nicotine industry, including regulatory environment and fiscal frameworks (added advantage).
Skills: Strong commercial savvy, business awareness, and the ability to resolve complex problems.
