Job Description
Premier Hospital is an 82-bed specialized hospital dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare focused on compassion, care, and competence. We are looking for a Perioperative Nurse to provide specialized clinical care to patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures. The role involves ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing practice throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Assessment: Ensure that pre-operative assessments are complete, including surgical checklists and nursing documentation; identify and report any discrepancies.
Surgical Support: Receive patients prior to surgery, perform pre-op checklists, and assist physicians in performing procedures in either scrub or circulating nurse roles.
Anesthesia & Recovery: Manage pre-operative care for elective cases and provide effective recovery for stable patients post-anesthesia. Assist with intubation and extubation in both the recovery and operating rooms.
Patient Care: Provide direct care to ventilated patients and facilitate safe transfers to alternate levels of care upon approval by the anesthetist.
Equipment Management: Effectively operate and maintain specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors and diathermy machines. Conduct per-shift inventory checks and report non-functional equipment.
Safety & Documentation: Maintain a safe environment by following infection control policies and hospital guidelines on waste management. Ensure nursing documentation is timely, comprehensive, and complete.
Communication: Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless surgical workflow. Report clinical and non-clinical incidents promptly.
Clinical Excellence: Administer medications safely, recognize pre-arrest/arrest states to initiate Basic Life Support, and participate in clinical audits and Continuous Medical Education (CME) events.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) or Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN).
Specialization: Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing.
Registration: Must be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid practicing license.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a busy Operating Room (OR).
Clinical Practice: Must have provided direct nursing care in surgical cases within the last year.
Skills and Competencies
