Job Description
GiveDirectly is the first and largest nonprofit that lets donors send money directly to the world’s poorest. The Operations Manager will be the backbone of the Emergency Cash (EC) Solutioning team, ensuring the department runs efficiently, compliantly, and at pace. This role involves managing day-to-day back-office operations, surge response support, planning cycles, and compliance systems. You will collaborate closely with the Senior Product Manager to define procedures and manage resources, and with the EC Delivery team to ensure smooth response launches and seamless cross-functional coordination. Additionally, you will support the strategy and product roadmap by contributing field insights and operational analysis.
Responsibilities
Team Administration and Operations Management (50%)
Manage core administrative processes including procurement, contracting, vendor management, and payments.
Handle petty cash and logistics support for the EC team and response teams.
Develop and improve procedures for operational documentation, financial tracking, and compliance logs.
Ensure all team operations are aligned with global policies and procedures.
Maintain a centralized repository of templates, SOPs, decision memos, and tools.
Response Launch & Implementation Surge (30%)
Provide surge capacity during the early phases of crisis responses, supporting scoping and setup.
Manage the "back office" of response launches, including logistics, travel, and financial tracking.
Configure and operationalize pre-built emergency cash tools and troubleshoot operational gaps.
Capture lessons learned during responses and contribute to post-response debriefs.
Support management of crisis response surge rosters and foster a learning mindset.
EC Secretariat (20%)
Maintain up-to-date documentation across the EC Solutioning Team.
Support coordination of planning cycles, goal tracking, and team communications.
Coordinate EC retreats, onboarding processes, and team events.
Requirements and Qualifications
4+ years of experience in operations, administration, or program delivery.
BA/BSc/HND degree qualification.
Experience in humanitarian response, development, or technology-for-good settings is highly preferred.
Deep understanding of procurement and financial principles, policies, and procedures.
Proven ability to manage budgets and compliance processes.
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage complex logistics.
Excellent communication and coordination skills across different cultures and geographies.
Comfort working in ambiguity and creating structure for evolving systems.
