The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) is seeking a qualified and experienced Librarian to lead and manage its library services. The Librarian is responsible for the strategic growth of the library and the curriculum material center, overseeing staff, and ensuring that academic resources effectively support the university's diverse student and faculty population. This role involves high-level administrative tasks, including strategic planning, budgeting, and the procurement of both physical and electronic resources, while maintaining a conducive environment for research and study.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plan for the continued growth of the library and the curriculum material center in collaboration with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs.
Prepare strategic plans and quarterly reports for the library.
Compile statistics and reports relating to library usage.
Supervise the work of library employees in cataloguing, classification, circulation, indexing, and preservation of library materials.
Ensure and maintain a studious atmosphere within the library.
Receive and expedite all library book requests within budget limitations.
Generate monthly reports on all acquisitions and additions for departments, alongside reports on unused funds.
Collaborate with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs to increase the procurement of library books and subscriptions to electronic resources.
Ensure optimal utilization of all library resources.
Keep abreast of new technological trends relevant to library management.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Library Studies from a recognized institution. A PhD degree will be an added advantage.
Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Library Studies from a recognized institution.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience serving as an Assistant Librarian.
Evidence of professional growth and active membership in a relevant professional association.
At least one (1) article published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Proven experience with library systems, databases, and academic information resources.
Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
