The Lecturer in Midwifery will develop, manage, and monitor the implementation of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery programs and related activities at Amref International University (AMIU). This role encompasses teaching and training, curriculum development and review, research, innovation, and fundraising activities. The holder will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of departmental programs, student mentoring, and ensuring adherence to quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory bodies. The position reports to the Head of Department and contributes toward meeting key performance indicators and the overall University mission and vision.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Training: Deliver high-quality instruction and training specifically in the area of Midwifery.
Curriculum Development: Lead and participate in the development and periodic review of departmental curricula to ensure relevance and compliance with standards.
Research and Extension: Actively engage in research projects and extension activities to contribute to the body of knowledge in the field.
Fundraising: Participate in and support fundraising initiatives within the Department.
Student Support: Supervise and mentor students, guiding their academic and professional growth.
Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with industry trends and educational methodologies.
Administrative Duties: Execute any other duties assigned by the Head of Department on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Must hold a Master of Science in Midwifery.
Academic Progression: Must be currently enrolled as a PhD student.
Professional Certification: Must hold a valid practice license and be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
Teaching Experience: At least 5 years of experience teaching in nursing training institutions.
Clinical Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in active clinical practice.
Specialized Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and evaluation, as well as proficiency in supporting virtual learning environments.
Technical and Soft Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong facilitation and interpersonal abilities.
Proficient report writing and IT skills.
Commitment to integrity, respect for diversity, and professional maturity.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate creativity in problem-solving.
