The Junior Horticultural Supervisor will support field operations related to baby corn, cucurbit seed production (watermelon, squash, pepper, and tomato), and seed maize. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising field workers, allocating daily tasks, and promoting safe work practices to ensure efficient crop production and high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations: Support land preparation, planting, transplanting, irrigation, and fertilizer application while supervising daily field activities to ensure proper crop establishment and spacing.
Crop Monitoring: Monitor crop growth stages and assist in implementing nutrient management, fertigation programs, and integrated pest and disease management practices.
Purity Maintenance: Oversee weed control activities and participate in rouging operations to maintain varietal purity in seed production fields.
Seed Production Supervision: Assist in supervising hybrid seed production activities including emasculation, hand pollination, monitoring pollination schedules, and maintaining proper labeling and records.
Harvest Management: Monitor baby corn harvesting to ensure crops are picked at the correct maturity stage while maintaining quality standards for ear size and freshness.
Documentation: Maintain accurate field records, production logs, and input usage reports while supporting internal inspections and seed certification processes.
Labor Supervision: Supervise field workers and seasonal labor by allocating daily tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to company SOPs and quality standards.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or a related field.
2–5 years of field experience in crop production or seed production.
Basic knowledge of baby corn, seed maize, and cucurbit crop production.
Understanding of seed production principles (genetic purity, isolation, rouging).
Exposure to hybrid seed production or vegetable crop management is an advantage.
Mandatory: Valid driving license with a motorbike endorsement and proficiency in riding.
