Old Mutual Kenya is looking for an Investment Manager to join its team in Nairobi. The role is focused on the investment execution and deal origination process, particularly within climate investing and early-stage business development across Africa. You will be responsible for identifying investment opportunities, structuring complex transactions, and managing junior team members while maintaining relationships with a broad network of financial and legal professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Flow & Execution: Assist with the origination of deal flow and investment opportunities. Assume a central role in investment execution and responsibility within the team.
Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, external service providers, and all internal stakeholders.
Transaction Management: Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and develop investment opportunities to close in accordance with AIIM policies, procedures, and relevant good practice.
Reporting & Presentations: Take ownership of investment committee slide decks, bid documents, and presentations.
Financial Analysis: Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions. Build out and/or provide oversight of project finance models.
Risk & Valuation: Conduct risk analysis and review of financial statements and valuations.
Asset Management: Apply industry/product knowledge to contribute meaningfully to deal origination and ongoing asset management. Identify and escalate transaction dynamics to the Fund Head.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Actively engage with AIIM asset management and operations teams, including ESG, regarding deal execution requirements.
Fundraising: Engage in fundraising activities including preparation of materials, joining meetings, investor diligence trips, and ongoing reporting to investors.
Team Leadership: Manage analysts and associates in the team to help them develop to their full potential.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of direct deal-doing experience and/or working in a relevant climate business development organization. Significant international experience in climate investing plus transaction experience in Africa is required.
Passion: Demonstrable passion for early-stage business development in the climate space.
Network: Well-networked with solid relationships among bankers, lawyers, and advisors for origination work.
Technical Skills: Strong financial acumen, capacity to identify data inconsistencies, and strong financial analysis and modeling skills.
Knowledge: Good working knowledge of key commercial statutes, regulations, and general commercial orientation.
Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Execution: High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure.
