Role Summary
The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Associate role exists to ensure safe operations, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management within highly critical data-centre environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor compliance with the company HSE policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace.
- Participate in accidents or incidents investigations to determine root causes and to find ways to prevent them in the future.
- Perform regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with HSE regulations.
- Follow up and close corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) arising from incidents, audits, inspections, or near misses.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and procedures, including drills and training for emergency response teams.
- Oversee the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system including reviewing, approval and closure of high-risk work permits (hot works, confined space, work-at-height, electrical isolation etc).
- Provide HSE oversight to engineering teams and contractors through Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) monitoring to ensure safe execution of maintenance, energization, and commissioning.
- Ensure statutory reporting to DOSHS for all notifiable incidents, inspections, or audits in accordance with Kenyan legislation.
- Support sustainability initiatives including collecting environmental KPIs (energy, waste, water, GHG emissions, noise, and spill prevention).
Candidate Profile and Requirements
We are looking for someone with between 5 – 8 years’ experience of working as a HSE Officer in large / major construction projects within data centers / infrastructure / built environment or power plants / substations (Client / Tier 1 contractor experience only).
The successful candidate must have proven experience of working in culturally diverse teams and managing and influencing contractor organizations. They must be computer literate, organized, result orientated and able to work under pressure with clear time constraints and to the highest standard.
Essential Qualifications / Training / Memberships
- A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or environmental field of study.
- HSE Qualification such as NEBOSH International General Certificate.
- In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EMCA) and procedures.
- Proficient in all Microsoft applications.
