The Field Officer at UN-Habitat works within the Urban Economy Branch, which is mandated to promote local capabilities of local governments. The agency promotes socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. This role is focused on field-level coordination and implementation support for urban development projects in humanitarian and displacement-affected settings in Kenya, specifically supporting projects funded by the EU and JSB.
Duties and Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain regular engagement with Dadaab–Hagadera Municipality, Garissa County Government, and the Department of Refugee Services (DRS); facilitate coordination meetings, prepare minutes, and track follow-up actions for projects.
Liaison & Risk Management: Serve as the day-to-day liaison with the JSB implementing partner, tracking field activities and flagging operational risks and issues to the Project Manager.
Representation: Represent UN-Habitat in relevant Dadaab sector coordination forums including the Shelter/NFI and Infrastructure clusters, and maintain an updated partnership contacts and activity log.
Data Collection: Collect and compile contextual field data such as community feedback, access conditions, local market updates, partner activity, and emerging risks to inform and adapt project implementation.
Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate multi-stakeholder planning and validation workshops for EU-funded projects, including logistics, participant mobilisation, agenda preparation, and documentation.
Community Co-design: Organize community co-design sessions for JSB flood protection infrastructure and flood-resilient shelter prototypes, ensuring inclusive participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and the elderly.
Qualifications and Special Skills
Education: A University degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is considered an added advantage.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of field-based experience in humanitarian, development, or displacement-affected settings in Kenya is required.
