Job Description
CHAK is seeking to recruit an experienced Driver for its CDC-funded CHAP Stawisha Project, which supports HIV/TB/OVC services in faith-based and county health facilities across 15 counties in Kenya. The position will be based in Kitui and will support operations across Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui Counties. The role involves providing safe and reliable transportation services to CHAK employees and visitors, ensuring proper maintenance of assigned vehicles, and maintaining accurate vehicle records in line with organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain defensive driving practices and operate assigned vehicle(s) safely and courteously.
Provide transportation and communication link support between staff and clients.
Assist passengers, including persons with disabilities, in entering and exiting the vehicle.
Operate ramps, lifts, and securement devices as required.
Read and interpret maps and driving directions to determine efficient routes.
Provide safety briefings to passengers before each trip departure.
Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles (interior and exterior).
Refuel and perform minor maintenance checks on assigned vehicles before travel.
Coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules with staff to minimize service disruptions.
Respond to accidents or medical emergencies, administer First Aid, and alert emergency providers as needed.
Strictly observe all traffic rules and regulations.
Perform any other lawful duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and Requirements
High School Certificate (KCSE).
Valid and clean driver’s license.
Defensive Driving Certificate.
First Aid certification.
Certificate in motor vehicle mechanics.
Minimum of 4 years’ prior professional driving experience.
Skills and Competencies
Extensive knowledge of vehicle operations and features.
Basic automobile mechanical skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to write reports and read maps.
Computer literacy.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
