Job Description
Garissa University is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Clinical Instructor / Senior Nursing Officer (GaU Grade 11). This role is centered on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice for nursing students. The instructor will be responsible for demonstrating nursing procedures, conducting clinical examinations, and supervising students during their rotations at various clinical sites. The goal is to ensure students develop necessary professional skills in accordance with the Nursing Council of Kenya and university standards.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate nursing procedures and conduct Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs).
Maintain student attendance and manage inventory within the nursing skills lab.
Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of equipment in the skills lab.
Prepare clinical and skills lab schedules and coordinate with clinicians at clinical sites for student-patient assignments.
Supervise students during clinical rotations in healthcare facilities to ensure presence and professional conduct.
Facilitate hands-on learning and practical skill development for students.
Provide classroom, clinical, and simulation-based teaching.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and other university institutional responsibilities.
Address and escalate student concerns regarding clinical experiences to ensure a high-quality learning environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university.
Must be registered as a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse by the Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Council of Kenya.
At least eight (8) years of relevant work experience.
Must fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution regarding integrity and leadership.
