BURN is seeking a Carbon Technical Officer to oversee the technical aspects of carbon project development and certification. The role involves managing the end-to-end lifecycle of carbon credits, ensuring compliance with international standards such as Gold Standard and VERRA. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting technical reports, conducting detailed reviews of project documentation, and ensuring that all field activities and monitoring processes meet rigorous quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Report Preparation: Prepare final drafts and conduct reviews of all carbon reports, including VPA DDs, PoA DDs, standalone Project Design Documents, Monitoring Reports, Stakeholder Consultation reports, and Emissions Reductions Calculations Files.
Timeline Oversight: Review field activity timelines (Baseline and Monitoring Surveys) prepared by Junior CTOs to ensure alignment with target issuance dates, accounting for VVB audits and registry reviews.
SOP Development: Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Control, and Quality Assurance plans for technical processes, including sampling protocols, KPT protocols, and SDG impact measurements.
Data Management: Ensure all supporting documentation for project validation and verification is organized and meets registry requirements on platforms like SharePoint.
Training and Capacity Building: Conduct bi-monthly training for the Carbon Operations Department to ensure compliance with standards and internal SOPs.
Audit Management: Provide first-level responses to reviews from VVBs or carbon registries and maintain a feedback register to improve technical SOPs.
Strategic Analysis: Identify and manage SWOT factors facing projects and develop strategic plans to de-risk credit issuance regarding scope and budget.
Stakeholder Communication: Manage communications with Standards (VERRA/GS) regarding technical changes, deviations, or clarification requests.
Data Integrity: Refine and update data collection questionnaires to maximize opportunities for carbon credit generation.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of carbon asset development experience.
Mastery of Gold Standard cookstove and metered methodologies.
Proven track record in end-to-end certification (design documentation through issuance).
Minimum qualification of a BA/BSc/HND.
Experience managing junior analysts or technical staff.
Excellent written documentation and high attention to detail.
