AfriCert Limited is a leader in Agribusiness certification, specializing in certification for vegetables, fruits, and commodity products such as coffee, cocoa, tea, and cut flowers. We are a competitive certification company accredited and approved by various standard owners in the Agribusiness sector. We are looking for a highly motivated Business Development Manager to join our team in Nairobi or a subsidiary office.
Role Overview
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for formulating and contributing to the development and delivery of successful client acquisition and retention strategies in line with the group’s strategic goals. The role involves understanding market dynamics, identifying industry trends, and managing the company's brand visibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy & Growth: Formulate and contribute to client acquisition and retention in line with strategic goals.
Market Intelligence: Develop a strong understanding of customers and market dynamics; identify trendsetter ideas through research on industry events and publications.
Sales Management: Forecast sales targets in conjunction with the finance department and ensure they are met; follow up on the business pipeline.
Customer Experience: Lead annual customer satisfaction surveys and act as a liaison between customers and internal departments.
Quality Assurance: Recommend remedial measures to the Board; periodically act as a 'mystery assessor' or 'mystery client'.
Brand Visibility: Identify and budget for participation in key industry events (e.g., AFCA, BioFach, UEBT Conference); manage company social media platforms.
Risk Management: Develop and maintain a risk register for the marketing and business development portfolio.
Proposals: Prepare formal responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Competitive Analysis: Monitor competition and collect market intelligence.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or a business-related field.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a Business Development Manager, ideally in the service industry.
Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the certification environment is required.
Professional Affiliation: Membership in a professional body is an added advantage.
Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in both English and French is preferred.
Competencies: Strong organizational and project management skills; high integrity and professionalism; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
