Role Overview
The Assistant Manager for Business Development (Broker Business Corporate & Public Sector) at First Assurance Kenya (a subsidiary of Absa Bank Limited) is responsible for supporting the delivery of targeted business growth, specifically within the non-medical insurance sector. The role involves managing key broker relationships and ensuring high-quality service delivery while meeting financial and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Relationship Management: Manage broker relationships to deliver targeted premium outputs.
- Pipeline Management: Oversee business pipeline quotation processing and ensure transmission to brokers within established Turnaround Times (TATs).
- Service Level Agreements: Develop and operate SLAs with brokers for differentiated and high-quality service delivery.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Adhere to interdepartmental service level standards in liaison with the Underwriting team across various branches.
- Cross-Selling: Drive cross-selling initiatives for corporate business and handle other special assignments as allocated.
- Market Intelligence: Collect market intelligence through continuous research (articles, publications, networking, etc.) to stay ahead of market developments.
- Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate market opportunities regarding competitor sales sources and influence market entry strategies.
- Knowledge Management: Categorize, store, and distribute market research findings to protect and utilize knowledge capital.
Financial Management
- Target Achievement: Deliver on financial parameters including Gross Written Premium (GWP), loss ratios, and cross-selling targets.
- Debt Management: Manage broker debt in accordance with the standard debt management protocols.
- Expenditure Control: Monitor and control budgets for travel, events, and promotional items.
- Brand Activities: Plan and allocate funds for brand management events and activities according to the structured calendar.
Operations & Compliance
- Regulatory Alignment: Stay updated on legislation and insurance industry developments that impact the Business Advantage unit.
- Compliance: Coordinate regulatory compliance for brokers, including licensing and onboarding requirements as per ABC Third Party Standards.
Management Reporting
- Performance Reporting: Prepare accurate production reports and statistical data for management review.
- Representation: Represent the department in business reporting forums in the absence of the Head of Department.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as Actuarial Science, B.Com Insurance, or Business Administration.
- Advanced Certification: Higher Diplomas in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies are required.
- Experience: 7 – 10 years of experience in sales management and business development within the Insurance industry.
- Specialization: At least 5 - 6 years of the experience must be in General Insurance at a management level.
- Professional Qualifications: ACII/Diploma in Insurance (UK), AIIK/Diploma in Insurance (Kenya), or significant progress toward completing these certifications.
