The Appliance Mechanic provides direct support to internal/external customers to ensure compliance, tracking efficiency, burn rates, and equipment usage while maximizing cost avoidance measures. The role involves performing technical master journey-level installation, diagnostic troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial industrial-grade food service appliances, equipment, and systems. You will manage maintenance schedules, oversee contractor work, and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of assigned employees.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform master journey-level installation, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial food service appliances and HVAC systems.
- Manage maintenance schedules, order inventory, and maintain stock of replacement parts and tools.
- Oversee and approve contractor work as required.
- Troubleshoot electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, and plumbing problems on commercial cooking equipment.
- Utilize Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs on commercial-grade equipment.
- Provide input to management for forecasting and monitoring stock levels for service/repair parts.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of all required plans and reports.
- Maintain effective formal and informal communication with all levels of management and customers.
- Coordinate the collection and preparation of activity reports.
- Enforce guidelines to ensure health, safety, and welfare of employees.
- Monitor team development and execute performance evaluations according to policy.
- Conduct site visits to establish professional relationships with maintenance teams and customers.
Skills and Competencies
- Deep understanding of organizational maintenance and supply concepts.
- Knowledge of U.S. Army maintenance support systems and production control.
- Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, Military regulations, and OEM requirements.
- Strong diagnostic abilities and technical research skills.
- Understanding of Department of Defense contracting policies and procedures.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
- Excellent leadership, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to meet deployment status requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED (KCSE equivalent).
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a maintenance supervisor environment is preferred.
- Two (2) years of related field experience can be substituted for each year of the four (2) years of college.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical manuals, and manufacturer files.
- Valid EPA Refrigerant Certification.
- Valid certification for commercial appliance repair.
