Job Description
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is seeking an Administration Intern to provide essential support across various departments. The intern will work alongside team members to offer administrative, financial, programmatic, communication, legal, and field support as needed. This role is designed for individuals passionate about human rights who are looking to gain experience within a non-governmental organization dedicated to entrenching a culture of human rights and democracy in Kenya.
Responsibilities and Duties
Support various thematic areas in the implementation of the organization’s operational plan as directed by Program Managers.
Undertake general administrative tasks to ensure smooth office operations.
Assist in fieldwork activities, including quality report writing, facilitation, training, and community mobilization.
Provide support to the legal affairs department by conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and analyzing legal policies.
Review and edit consultant reports and policy briefs.
Conduct desktop research and develop comprehensive reports on key issues related to KHRC’s strategic goals.
Analyze relevant bills and provide recommendations based on findings.
Monitor media reports and generate bi-monthly summaries.
Assist in organizing trainings, conferences, and meetings for KHRC constituents, ensuring quality reporting of these events.
Prepare materials for field activities, including collecting and packing materials for distribution.
Perform any other duties assigned by the internship committee or management.
Requirements and Qualifications
A first degree in a relevant discipline, or a recent graduate who has completed all coursework and is awaiting graduation.
Special requirement for Legal Area applicants: Must have finished 4th year of study in Law and be awaiting graduation, or have completed Kenya School of Law (KSL) and be awaiting admission to the bar.
Excellent planning and organizational skills with efficient work methods.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Empathetic and passionate about supporting people from diverse backgrounds and human rights advocacy.
Proactive initiative with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines under pressure.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Willingness to learn, teachable attitude, and a strong work ethic.
