About the Role
The University of Nairobi is seeking an Adherence Counsellor for its operations in Mombasa. The role involves providing specialized counseling and psychological support within a healthcare setting, specifically focused on HIV care. The successful candidate will work to improve patient adherence to treatment protocols and support clinical outcomes through professional counseling and data management.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive adherence counseling and psychological support to patients within an HIV clinic setup.
Facilitate the building of trustful relationships with participants to ensure long-term retention in care.
Manage and document patient interactions using electronic health records or similar digital systems.
Utilize motivational interviewing and adherence counseling techniques to engage effectively with diverse patient populations.
Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection standards during all patient interactions.
Support clinical studies and related research activities as an added responsibility.
Maintain high standards of data entry and record-keeping in a public hospital environment.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Degree or Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in counseling or support roles within healthcare settings, preferably in HIV care.
Prior experience working within an HIV clinic set-up in a public hospital.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in data entry and management using electronic health records (EHR).
Current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is a MUST.
Current certificate in Human Subject Protection is a MUST.
Must have a practicing license issued by the Counsellors & Psychologist Board.
Additional training in adherence counseling or motivational interviewing techniques is beneficial.
Experience in clinical studies is an added advantage.
