Job Description
The University of Nairobi is seeking a qualified and dedicated Adherence Counsellor for a position based in Bungoma. The role involves providing psychological support and adherence counseling to patients, particularly those within HIV care programs. The successful candidate will work within a public hospital HIV clinic setup to ensure patients remain engaged with their treatment plans and receive the necessary emotional and technical support to manage their health effectively.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Provide comprehensive counseling and psychological support to participants in the HIV care program.
Conduct adherence counseling and employ motivational interviewing techniques to improve patient treatment outcomes.
Work within the HIV clinic setup of a public hospital to facilitate patient care.
Manage and enter patient data into electronic health records and other clinical management systems.
Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection protocols.
Build trustful and empathetic relationships with diverse patient populations.
Support clinical studies as required.
Qualifications and Experience
A Degree or Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Counselling, Psychology, or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in counseling or support roles within healthcare settings, preferably in HIV care.
Prior experience working within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital.
Current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is a MUST.
Current certificate in Human Subject Protection is a MUST.
One must have a valid practicing license from the Counsellors & Psychologist Board.
Proficiency in data entry and management using electronic health records or similar systems.
Additional training in adherence counseling or motivational interviewing techniques is beneficial.
Experience in clinical studies is an added advantage.
