Job Description
The University of Nairobi is seeking a qualified Adherence Counsellor to provide psychological support and adherence counseling within its HIV care programs in Trans Nzoia. The role is critical in ensuring patients maintain their treatment regimens through trustful relationships and professional guidance within a public hospital setting.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide psychological support and adherence counseling to patients within the HIV care framework.
Establish and maintain trustful relationships with participants to ensure engagement and retention in care.
Communicate effectively with diverse populations to address barriers to treatment adherence.
Manage and enter patient data accurately into electronic health records and other health management systems.
Collaborate with the clinical team within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital environment.
Maintain strict adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection standards.
Support clinical studies as required to improve patient outcomes and program efficacy.
Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage behavioral change in patients.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A Degree or Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, or a related equivalent qualification.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in counseling or support roles within a healthcare setting, with a strong preference for experience in HIV care.
Clinical Background: Prior experience working within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital.
Certifications: A current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and a current certificate in Human Subject Protection are mandatory.
Professional Licensing: Must be licensed by the Counsellors & Psychologist Board.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in data entry and the use of electronic health records (EHR).
Preferred Skills: Additional training in motivational interviewing or specific adherence counseling techniques is beneficial; experience in clinical research/studies is an added advantage.
